WHY IS BIOREACTOR TECHNOLOGY BETTER FOR MICROPROPAGATION?

Compared to traditional tissue culture techniques, bioreactor systems offer several advantages; they are time and labor saving, relatively easy to scale-up, allow enhanced growth and multiplication (e.g. by forced aeration) and improved nutrient availability due to the use of liquid medium.

Bioreactor-based plant propagation can increase the speed of multiplication and growth of cultures when commencing commercial propagation.

ARE MICROPROPAGATED STARTER PLANTS GENETICLY IDENTICAL?

Differences between Cannabis Mother Plant and Cannabis plants produced using tissue culture, were statistically insignificant. (Pn = 1.23, gCO2 = 8.65, E = 0.46, Ci = 6.01, Ci /Ca = 0.04 and WUE = 0.41; data represents the least significant difference between cannabis mother plant and cannabis invitro procuded plants at p < 0.05).

In a similar experiment Bag et al. (2000) have reported at par or slightly better performance of tissue culture raised plants than mother plant in terms of their photosynthetic characteristics and morphological parameters.
